Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment

Our process begins with a 2-hour oral health assessment. Yes, that’s a lot of time! We don’t want to give you solutions that work for a while and then fail. We’re here to help you achieve optimal oral health and comfort for life. This meticulous assessment is our first step on that journey and includes:
  • discussion of your medical and dental histories
  • discussion of your concerns or goals for treatment
  • examination of your entire chewing system, including: teeth, gums, bone levels, jaw joints, head, neck, and intra-oral muscles
  • oral cancer examination
  • examination of jaw function (TMJ) in coordination with your teeth
  • x-rays (with your permission)
  • airway evaluation

What is Occlusion?

Occlusion is how your teeth come together, relative to the position of each tooth and alignment of your jaws, head, and neck. Maybe you feel like your teeth don’t come together unless you shift your jaws, or you chew delicately to avoid discomfort.

Poor alignment can cause:
  • headaches
  • jaw pain
  • neck and back pain
  • chronic tooth fractures
  • unnecessary wear on certain teeth
  • periodontal disease, gum recession, and bone loss
  • failure of crowns and fillings

Even if you’ve got perfectly straight teeth, you may have an alignment issue.

We’ll assess your bite and if it’s right for you, fit you with a custom splint. When the bite aligns, your nervous system relaxes, your posture changes and your whole body feels better.
